Renault Captur : Hit or miss?

Renault is finally ready to launch their much awaited new 5-seater Captur by the beginning of next month. First lot of production has been already spotted being dispatched to various dealers nationwide.

Talking of specs, Captur will be using the same engine series from siblings like Duster. This means that 1.5 Lt, 110PS diesel and 1.5 Lt, 106PS petrol will be a common share. No auto gearbox option till now, but we hope that Renault will launch it after it reads the performance of Captur in segment that already includes Jeep Compass, Mahinda XUV500 & Tata Hexa.

Also, Captur will be using all the latest gadgets such as projector headlamps and DRL LED’s, cornering lamps, touch screen, android auto etc. to match the segment standards. Renault will even be offering various customization options from interior to exteriors of Captur so that every car owner can make their car unique.

Leaving aside the equipment list and the proven powertrain, will Captur be able to capture a chunky market share?

The segment which Captur is trying to fill is a notch above Duster & when we talk about a mixture of a SUV and MUV above the 10 lakh plus budget range in India; customers expect the product to give almost everything. Hence, preferences don’t just limit to power or equipment but market value, resale and after sales support become a major part of ownership for such customers.

Jeep Compass is already proving to be a superhit among buyers.

Segment is already filling with tough competitors which provide a major road presence along brand value like Jeep Compass or products that are value for money & acquire a good market position like XUV500, marking a position on it’s own is going to be real tough. Renault knows that!

Mahindra’s ‘Cheetah’ has already been ruling segment since launched.

Everything depends on pricing of Captur for Renault. Pricing too low will kill Duster (which is already not doing so well as before). Pricing too high will kill Captur even before it’s born. Let’s see how Renault puts this up.
